14 tenants file lawsuit after vacating Wesley apartments
“At the press conference, tenants and their family and supporters voiced anger and pain over their displacement and the difficulties of moving. Vickie Sturdivant, a former tenant and plaintiff, said that many of them have faced delays in getting new housing because of conditions like having a fixed income or having a poor or non-existent credit score.”
Evanston city staff scrutinized for emergency removal of 2018 Wesley residents
“Evanston officials and residents are putting city staff under pressure for a decision to remove the residents of 2018 Wesley Ave. from their homes during the night on May 9 in response to the continued deterioration of the property.“
Tenants in Wesley apartments forced to vacate early
“The police arrived in the darkness of night when Black people were getting ready for bed and removed them from their homes,” she wrote. “This is reminiscent of Klu Klux Klan actions of the south.”
